Mechanical properties of ceria-calcia stabilized zirconia ceramics with alumina additions

• As a result of grain size reduction, strength and hardness for 10Ce-1CaO 10Ce-1CaO-5Al2O3 increased compared to 10Ce-TZP. Aging resistance in all 10Ce-1CaO/ alumina composites. Measurement K I c by SEVNB VIF methods corroborate the difference between values obtained both methods. Ceria-stabilized zirconia-based composites have been developed aiming obtain ceramic materials with enhanced hardness, strength, fracture toughness, low temperature degradation. These are based on ceria-calcia stabilized zirconia (10 mol% CeO 2 -1 CaO TZP) α-alumina (0−15 wt%) as second phase. Raw form powders were dispersed through ball milling, dried slip casting, subsequently grounded before being pressed conventionally sintered at 1450 °C. Compared 10Ce-TZP ceramics (typically 500 MPa 6 GPa), an increase was observed compositions, especially 10Ce-1CaO-5Al O 3 (739 10.2 GPa). Single Edge V-Notched Beam toughness ranged from 5.1 6.6 MPa∙√m, indicating loss transformability compositions. 10Ce-1CaO-TZP co-doped ceramics, aging alumina-containing also excellent.
